Pierce is one of the older towns in our area. It was founded in 1869, the same year as Greeley, and named for railroad official John Pierce. It was incorporated in 1918, and it is still a farm town on US 85, easy to spot by its grain elevator and water tower.
Pierce sits at about 5,092 feet, one of the higher towns we serve. That extra elevation means even stronger sun on deck boards and plenty of winter cold.
What we fix on Pierce decks
Most Pierce homes are older, and so are their decks. The most common problems are:
- Rotted boards and soft spots, especially near the house
- Posts set in the ground that have rotted at the base
- Railings that have loosened or were never built to today’s rules
- Stain that has faded away and left gray, cracking wood
- Stairs with loose or cracked treads
A practical approach
We do not push big jobs. On an older Pierce deck, we check the joists, beams, posts, and ledger first. If the frame is mostly sound, we repair the parts that failed, tighten the railing, and restain the wood to protect it. If the frame is rotted through, we will tell you plainly and handle a full rebuild with footings dug at least 30 inches deep.
Farmland wind blows grit into the gaps between deck boards. Clear the gaps each spring so snowmelt can drain through instead of soaking the joists.

Deck permits in Pierce may go through the town or Weld County depending on your address. We check the right office before starting any structural work.
